10 farmers killed in northwest Nigeria

LAGOS, Nigeria (AA) - At least 10 farmers have been killed and 7 others injured in an attack in northwest Zamfara State, according to police Monday.

“I can confirm that 10 civilians who are farmers in Shinkafi district were shot dead by criminals who attacked their Kware community at the weekend, specifically on Saturday,” police spokesman Mohamed Shehu told Anadolu Agency.

He said at least 7 others were injured in the attack -- another in the series of unabated violence in the agrarian state where killings associated with kidnapping and cattle stealing have become pervasive.

Shehu said no arrests have been made but police are investigating.

“Our men are working to arrest and bring the perpetrators to justice,” he added.
