10 more dead amid floods in northeastern India

NEW DELHI (AA) - The death toll due to floods in India's northeastern state of Assam has gone up by 10 in the last 24 hours, the local disaster management authority said on Friday.

According to a statement, 10 more deaths were reported in the state which has been grappling with the floods for nearly two weeks.

The total death toll in the state due to floods and landslides has now reached 117 since April this year, with over 3.3 million people across 3,510 villages affected in the last 24 hours, the statement said.

Disaster authorities said two drones were deployed in Cachar district to map out the flood situation from above, as well as to provide relief materials to areas otherwise rendered inaccessible.
