ANKARA (AA) – At least 11 suspected terrorists were arrested in an operation launched from Ankara, said security sources Sunday.

Ankara security and intelligence branch teams arrested suspected terrorists who were said to be in preparation to organize provocative rallies in Ankara, Istanbul, and Adana before May 1, Labor Day, said the source requesting anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to media.

The source said the suspects were members of the Turkey Communist Labor Party Communist Party of Turkey / Marxist-Leninist Conference and Revolutionary People's Liberation Party/Front identified as terrorist organizations in Turkey.

In another operation, Turkish air forces destroyed shelters and depots of PKK terrorists in northern Iraq, said the General Staff on Sunday.

On Saturday Turkish airstrikes hit northern Iraq’s Hakurk district where PKK terrorists were in preparation to attack at police stations and city centers.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- has been responsible for the death of some 40,000 people.
