Positive developments seen in grain crisis thanks to Türkiye's 'red line diplomacy'

ANKARA (AA) – A total of 120 days have passed since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war.

Ukrainian forces continue to fight Russian forces' advances in eastern Ukraine.

There have been positive developments in the grain crisis thanks to Türkiye's “red line diplomacy.”

On Thursday, a "control center" is set to be established for the grain corridor if Russian and Ukrainian sides reach an agreement in a meeting to be held in Istanbul soon, according to Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusouglu.

"If an agreement is signed in Istanbul, then there would be a control center to be established as a safe zone out of the Ukrainian territorial waters of will be established," said Mevlut Cavusoglu on Thursday during a news conference in Ankara with his British counterpart Liz Truss.

Clashes between Ukrainian and Russian troops continue in Kharkiv, while Ukraine has declared regaining control of some Kharkiv settlements.

More than 4,600 civilians have been killed in Ukraine since the war started Feb. 24 with Russia.

Around 15 million people have been forced to flee their homes, including more than 8 million that have fled to other countries, according to UN figures.
