15 killed in rain-related events in India's Mumbai

NEW DELHI (AA) - At least 15 people were killed and several injured when a house collapsed and a landslide occurred from heavy rain early Sunday in India’s financial hub of Mumbai, according to officials.

Public relations officer at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Tanaji Kamble, said 12 people died after a house wall collapsed in Chembur and three people were killed when huts collapsed in a landslide in the Vikhroli area.

Kamble told Anadolu Agency that residents who were injured were discharged from the hospital.

Mumbai is currently witnessing Monsoon rains that have caused waterlogging in some areas.

"As per the nowcast warning issued at 0030 Hrs by IMD [India Meteorological Department ]. Mumbai, intense to very intense spells of rain very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Mumbai during next 3 hours," BMC tweeted early Sunday.
