2 bodies recovered after mine collapses in Turkey
Bodies recovered more than 30 hours after mine accident in Black Sea Zonguldak province
By Ferdi Akilli
ZONGULDAK, Turkey (AA) – The bodies of at least two miners were recovered Thursday, more than 30 hours after a mine collapsed in northern Turkey.
The bodies, identified as Volkan Koroglu, 32, and Tayfun Keskin, 34, were recovered from a privately owned mine in the Kimli district of the Zonguldak province, a region on Turkey’s Black Sea coast.
On Tuesday, the roof of the mine collapsed, trapping the miners working inside.
The country’s worst mining accident took place in May 2014, when 301 coal miners were killed in the Soma mine in western Turkey.
In a similar incident in October last year, 18 miners were killed in Ermenek, central Turkey, when the mine flooded.
