2 Canadian women abducted in Ghana

LAGOS, Nigeria (AA) - Gunmen have abducted two Canadian women in Ghana's commercial city of Kumasi, police said on Wednesday.

“Police Command is investigating a complaint of kidnapping at Ahodwo, Kumasi Royal Golf Club, at 8:25 pm on 4 June 2019, where two women of Canadian nationality were kidnapped,” David Eklu, an assistant police commissioner, said in a statement.

Eklu said police have launched a probe into the incident.

The police officer urged citizens to inform security agencies about any information they had on the incident.

The abductees were said to be volunteers with the Youth Challenge International, a Canadian international development agency with headquarters in Toronto.

Local newspapers said the last time such an abduction took place in Kumasi, the country's tourism hub, was in April when an Indian man was kidnapped for ransom.
