2 Sudanese soldiers killed in Yemen

KHARTOUM (AA) - Two Sudanese soldiers were killed in fighting war-torn Yemen, the Sudanese army said late Saturday.

In a statement, army spokesman Brigadier Ahmed Khalifa al-Shami said Sudanese forces had carried out a series of operations on Friday and Saturday as part of the Arab coalition to support legitimacy in Yemen.

Two soldiers were killed and others injured, the spokesman said.

The spokesman, however, did not specify when the soldiers were killed.

Last month, the Sudanese army said five soldiers had been killed during operations in Yemen.

Sudan has sent hundreds of its soldiers to fight alongside a Saudi-led Arab coalition against the Houthi group, which overran the capital Sanaa and other provinces in 2014.

In 2015, Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies launched a massive air campaign aimed at reversing Houthi gains and shoring up Yemen’s pro-Saudi government.

According to UN, 11.3 percent of Yemen’s population has been forcibly displaced by the conflict.
