Protesters demand full civilian rule

By Adel Abdel-Rahim
KHARTOUM, Sudan (AA) – At least 28 protesters were injured Thursday in protests demanding full civilian rule in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, according to local medics on Friday.

Two protesters were injured by live bullets, while six others were hit by tear gas canisters, the Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors said in a statement.

During Thursday's rallies, protesters called for bringing those responsible for the death of protesters to accountability and the release of political prisoners.

There was no comment from the Sudanese authorities on the report.

Since last October 25, Sudan has witnessed protests in response to exceptional measures taken by army chief Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, most notably the imposition of a state of emergency and the dissolution of Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok’s transitional government, a move decried by political forces as a “military coup”.
