3 more PYD/PKK lies about Afrin operation exposed

Supporters of terror group continue to share fake images online amid ongoing Turkish military operation in Syria's Afrin

By Fatma Esma Arslan

ANKARA (AA) - Supporters of the PYD/PKK terror group on Monday continued to post old photographs on social media as if they were recently shot in Syria’s northwestern Afrin region.

Supporters of the terrorist organization tried to portray the massacre of civilians carried out by the Assad regime as if it had been done by the Turkish army during ongoing Operation Olive Branch in Afrin.

The PKK terror group has given instructions to its supporters to post fake images online in an attempt to tarnish Turkey's ongoing Afrin operation.

Three more photographs, which were supposedly taken during the ongoing operation, turned out to be old pictures that were taken during different incidents in the past.

One picture shared on Twitter claimed "civilians and children are being targeted by Turkish army"; however, it turned out the picture was taken on Nov. 27, 2017, during the Assad regime’s attack in a civilian marketplace in Eastern Ghouta, which came from a report published by the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR).

Another photo shared on social media with the same allegations showed dead children. This picture was taken during another regime attack in E. Ghouta on Aug. 21, 2013.

A third picture shared on Twitter claimed "YPG damaged Turkish armed vehicles in Afrin"; however, the picture was taken on Sep. 30, 2012.

Pro-PKK terror group accounts even shared a photograph last week which was the winner of the AA Istanbul Photo Awards in 2016 as if it were recently shot in Afrin; this was all done as part of the terror group's black propaganda on social media.

Black propaganda and perception management against the Turkish military began soon after Turkey launched the operation, with supporters of the PYD/PKK terrorist organization posting fake and distorted photographs on social media and falsely claiming they were from Afrin.

All the claims were false and the pictures were actually taken before the Operation Olive Branch even began.

Some accounts posting such fake news and images were shut down after Anadolu Agency did a story on them.

The PYD/PKK terror group is occupying one-fourth of Syria and 65 percent of the Syria-Turkey border.

According to the Turkish General Staff, the aim of the Afrin operation is to establish security and stability along Turkish borders and the region, and protect the Syrian people from the oppression and cruelty of terrorists.

The military has said the operation is being carried out under the framework of Turkey's rights based on international law, UN Security Council’s decisions, self-defense rights under the UN charter and respect for Syria's territorial integrity.

It has also said that only terrorist targets are being destroyed and "utmost importance" is being given to not harm any civilians.

The PYD/PKK is the Syrian offshoot of the PKK terrorist group, which has been designated as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU.
