DOUALA, Cameroon (AA) - The bodies of five people, including three women, kidnapped by militants were recovered in North Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of Congo on Thursday.

The Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) kidnapped nine people, including four children, during an attack in Beni on Wednesday, local media reported, adding that three other people were also missing in a separate attack and purportedly taken away by the same terrorist group.

"The civilians killed were abducted a day before in the village of Toya on Bulongo’s west side and were found slaughtered this morning," the Kivu Morning Post reported, quoting Mumbere Meleki Mulala, coordinator of local civil society.

During the attack, four children were also kidnapped, it added.

In a statement, Beni Crisis Alarm, a local security alert network in the region, stated three people were also missing during the terrorist attack in Bulongo.

The ADF is a terrorist organization affiliated with the Daesh-aligned Islamic State in Central African Province that has been killing innocent people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo for years.

Earlier, Mowa Baeki Telly Roger, the mayor of Butembo, a city in the same province, asked residents to "be vigilant" following the detonation of a homemade device planted in a municipal office by "an unknown person."

He urged that those in charge of schools, religious institutions, and other public places conduct thorough searches to avert any eventuality.
