3 wounded in terror attack on military HQ in SE Turkey

MARDIN, Turkey (AA) - At least three people, including two soldiers, were wounded in a car bomb attack by the terrorist PKK group on a district gendarmerie headquarters in the southeastern province of Mardin, according to a military source on Thursday.

The wounded have been taken to hospital following the attack on the military base in Omerli, the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to media.

The blast left a crater on a highway near the base, causing material damage to nearby buildings, the source added.

The highway linking Omerli and Midyat towns was closed off following the explosion, and an operation has been launched to nab the terrorists.

The PKK - listed as a terrorist organization also by the U.S., and the EU - resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, nearly 600 security personnel, including troops, police officers, and village guards, have been martyred, and more than 7,700 PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
