HAKKARI, Turkey (AA) - Turkish security forces have arrested four PKK terror suspects in connection with the 2017 bombing in southern Hakkari that injured 19 soldiers, a statement said on Friday.

Turkish gendarmerie forces arrested four PKK terror suspects during counter-terror operations, said the statement by Hakkari Governor’s Office.

The suspects were also produced before the court, the statement added.

In 2017, at least 19 soldiers were wounded when a military vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device as it was passing through the town of Esendere.

Hakkari, which borders Iran and Iraq, is one of the southeastern provinces hardest hit by terrorism since the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU -- resumed its decades-old armed campaign in July 2015.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK has been responsible for the deaths of nearly 40,000 people, including women and children.
