4 UN staff, 1 civilian injured in Somalia bomb blast

Car bomb explodes near United Nations Development Programme building in the capital Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AA) - At least five people, including four United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) security staff and a civilian were wounded in a car bomb attack in the Somali capital Mogadishu on Wednesday morning, an official said.

Abdifatah Omar Hallane, Banadir regional administration spokesman, told Anadolu Agency over the phone the car bomb had exploded near the UNDP headquarters in the country.

Mogadishu police chief Bishar Abshir Gedi also confirmed the incident and the injury toll.

Mohamud Ilmi, an eyewitness, said the bomb had been planted in a pick-up truck that was parked near the UNDP building.

The al-Shabaab militant group claimed responsibility for the attack.

The blast comes a day after twin car bomb blasts targeted a security checkpoint and a hotel in Mogadishu that left 10 people dead.
