4,100+ more virus cases reported in Southeast Asia

JAKARTA (AA) - The total number of coronavirus cases in Southeast Asian countries reached 234,495 on Friday, including 6,761 fatalities and 136,090 recoveries.

At least 4,181 new cases and 104 deaths were recorded in member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations over the past day.

Indonesia, the worst-hit in the region, reported 89 fatalities, bringing the nationwide death toll to 4,665.

The number of cases in the country climbed to 95,418 with 1,761 additions, while recoveries rose by 1,781 to reach 46,977.

The Philippines reported 15 more virus-related fatalities, raising the country’s death toll to 1,879.

The number of infections increased by 2,103 to reach 76,444, while 144 more recoveries pushed the total to 24,502.

In Singapore, 277 new cases were registered over the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 49,375, while the death toll stands at 27.

Malaysia confirmed 21 more cases, pushing the total to 8,861, while recoveries reached 8,577 and the death toll remained at 123.

In Thailand, 10 new cases took the tally to 3,279, including 3,107 recoveries.

Cambodia confirmed four more infections, bringing the overall count to 202.

A total of 142 patients have recovered in the country so far.

Vietnam reported four new infections, raising the total number of cases to 412.

The number of recoveries in the country reached 365, while no fatality has been reported in the country to date.

Meanwhile, Laos has reported one new case of COVID-19 for the first time in 102 days, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 20, of which 19 patients have recovered.

There were no reports of new infections or fatalities in Brunei Darussalam and Myanmar.
