MOSUL, Iraq (AA) – Five Daesh//ISIS terror suspects were arrested in northern Iraq’s Mosul province on Friday, authorities said.

According to a statement by Iraq's Security Media Cell, the police raided two addresses in central Mosul for the arrests.

The suspects admitted their membership for the Daesh/ISIS terror group in their first questioning and were transferred to the court after official procedures, the statement added.

The Daesh/ISIS terror group had captured Mosul, Saladin and Al Anbar provinces, as well as some parts of Diyala and Kirkuk in June 2014. The regions were liberated from the terror group in years.

In 2017, Iraq declared victory over Daesh/ISIS by reclaiming all territories the terrorist group controlled since the 2014 summer, which was estimated to be about a third of the country’s territory.

Despite the four years that passed since the region was cleared off Daesh/ISIS, the terrorists have in recent months escalated their attacks, especially in the area between Kirkuk, Saladin and Diyala, known as the Triangle of Death.
