5 PKK terrorists surrender to Turkish security forces

Terrorists surrendered in southeastern Sirnak and Hakkari provinces

ANKARA (AA) - Five PKK terrorists surrendered to Turkish security forces in southeastern Sirnak and Hakkari provinces.

Turkish General Staff’s statement said four of the terrorists surrendered in Silopi district of Sirnak as they were escaping from the PKK’s northern Iraqi camp.

The remaining terrorist sought out by police surrendered to security forces in the Yuksekova district, the local governor's office said.

According to the army statement, the security forces also seized two buried improvised explosives in the Semdinli district of the province as well as two Kalashnikov rifles, walkie-talkies and propane cylinders used for improvised explosive devices in the Genc district of eastern Bingol province.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and the EU. It has waged a terror campaign against Turkey for more than 30 years, during which more than 40,000 people have been killed.

Since the group resumed its armed campaign in July 2015, more than 1,200 people, including security personnel and civilians, have lost their lives.


-DHKP-C raid

Turkish police on Thursday arrested at least six suspects including two women over alleged links to the far-left DHKP-C terrorist group during an operation in the northwestern Bursa province.

According to police sources who spoke on condition of anonymity, anti-terror squads conducted simultaneous raids at locations in the Yildirim, Nilufer, Osmangazi and Gemlik districts.

Several documents were seized during the raids.

DHKP-C is responsible for a number of terror attacks in Turkey including the 2013 attack on the U.S. Embassy in Ankara, which martyred a Turkish security guard and injured a Turkish journalist.

The far-left group is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the European Union.
