50 killed in clashes in Yemen’s Sanaa: Medical source
Clashes continue to rage in Yemen’s capital following execution of former president by Houthi militiamen

SANAA, Yemen (AA) - At least 50 people were killed and scores more injured in Sunday clashes between forces loyal to former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh -- who was killed Monday -- and the Shia Houthi militia, according to a local medical source.
“Sunday’s casualties included at least one civilian,” the source, speaking anonymously due to security concerns, told Anadolu Agency.
As of Monday evening, clashes were still ongoing in Yemen’s Houthi-held capital, according to the same source.
On Monday, Houthi militiamen executed Saleh -- who had until recently been considered an ally of the Houthis -- after waylaying his motorcade outside Sanaa.
Yemen has remained dogged by violence since 2014, when the Houthis and Saleh loyalists overran much of the country, including the capital.
The conflict escalated in 2015 when Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies launched a devastating air campaign aimed at rolling back Houthi gains in Yemen.
