5th Turkish Medical World Congress begins in Istanbul

Congress with attendance of some 500 academics and experts to focus on 'Chronic Noncommunicable Diseases'

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Fifth Turkish Medical World Congress kicked off on Saturday in Istanbul under the auspices of the Turkish Presidency.

Organized by the Health Institutes of Turkey (TUSEB) in cooperation with the Turkish Health Ministry and the World Health Organization (WHO), the three-day congress is being attended by some 500 scientists, academics, and stakeholders as well as the health ministers of Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Romania, Russia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, Bulgaria, Malta, and Cuba.

With the theme of "Chronic Noncommunicable Diseases", attendees will discuss the prevention and treatment of such ailments as obesity, diabetes, and cancer as well as cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, tobacco use, and substance abuse.

The congress will conclude on Monday with a closing declaration as well as the second Aziz Sancar Science, Service and Incentive Awards, named after the Turkish-born 2015 Nobel laureate in chemistry.
