6.2-magnitude earthquake hits western Turkey

No causalities reported so far in quake in Izmir province, AFAD says

ANKARA (AA) - An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale shook western Turkey's Izmir province on Monday, according to the country’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).

The quake struck Izmir's Karaburun district at 3.28 p.m. local time (1228 GMT) at a depth of 22.98 kilometers (14 miles), the authority said.

AFAD Izmir Director Osman Metin Saroglu said no causalities have been reported so far.

In late May, an earthquake measuring 5.1 magnitude hit western Manisa province; no causalities were reported in that incident.
