8 killed as stone quarry collapses in India

NEW DELHI (AA) – Eight people were killed and four others went missing after a stone quarry collapsed in India's northeast on Monday, officials said.

A statement by the Mizoram government's Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Department on Tuesday said that a massive landslide occurred at the stone quarry at Maudarh village in Hnahthial district on Monday afternoon.

R. Lalremsanga, a top administrative official of the Hnahthial district of northeast Mizoram state, told Anadolu Agency that eight bodies have been recovered so far.

“At least four people are missing and a search operation is still going on,” he said.

A National Disaster Response Force team also arrived at the spot and joined the rescue operation, according to the official.
