9 PKK terrorists killed in southeast Turkey operation

SIRNAK, Turkey (AA) - Nine PKK terrorists were killed in an air-backed operation in southeastern Sirnak province on Saturday, according to the regional governor's office.

The operation in Beyttussebap district's Farasin region was carried out by the gendarmerie forces in Sirnak in cooperation with units from Hakkari and Van provinces, the statement said.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.

Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of some 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians, including a number of women and children.
