9 US soldiers confirmed dead after army truck accident

WASHINGTON (AA) - Nine soldiers were confirmed dead after a light military vehicle carrying 12 servicemen was caught in a flash flood in Texas during a training accident.

"In this incident, we've lost nine soldiers," Maj. Gen. John Uberti said during in a press conference on Friday.

After the truck overturned Thursday, three soldiers were rescued and three others were confirmed dead. Rescue teams searched for the remaining six missing soldiers whose dead bodies were found after an intense search.

The incident occurred near Cold Springs and Owl Creek, located north of the base.

Texas has faced heavy rains in the past week and flood advisories have been issued in many parts of the state. A new batch of storms could dump as much as 10 inches on the state through Saturday.
