9-year-old Syrian child recovers in Turkish hospital

Abdumuin Al-Hasan lost his sight after explosion caused by YPG/PKK in Afrin

By Izzet Mazi

KILIS (AA) – Abdumuin Al-Hasan, nine years old, fled the siege imposed by the Bashar al-Assad regime with his family but was severely wounded by an explosion caused by YPG/PKK terrorists.

Following the incident, he woke up with severely damaged eyes, footage of his scream ( "Oh Father My eyes, My eyes") in a hospital went viral on social media.

For nearly eight years, the Assad regime, Russian airstrikes hit various Syrian cities while terror groups like PKK/KCK/PYD-YPG and Daesh wreaked havoc from the ground.

Abdulmuin had been aspiring to find relief after the Turkish military cleared Afrin of terrorists during Operation Olive Branch.

Turkey on Jan. 20 launched Operation Olive Branch to remove YPG/PKK and Daesh terrorists from Afrin. On March 18, Turkish troops and Free Syrian Army members liberated the town of Afrin, on the 58th day of the operation.

His father told Anadolu Agency that they had fled the airstrikes from Homs to Idlib then to Afrin.

But then a mine trap exploded, severely injuring several of his organs, including his eyes -- eyes that can still not see.

“I want to meet my family, even if I can't see them I want to hear their voice,” he laments to his uncle, who is his current guardian in a Turkish hospital in Kilis, a southern province at the Turkish-Syrian border. His mother and brothers are not with him.

“I still want to go to school, I still want to play, and I’m tired of seeing darkness,” he added.

“After the treatment, his body has quickly recovered, but he can’t see. As always we want support from Turkey for this,” his father stressed.

Now in Kilis, a charitable citizen has offered to provide help.

Zeki Kutlugun, who met the family 20 days ago, was touched when he saw Abdulmuin.

“it was somehow bearable if it was his leg, hand or some other organ, but an eye is so painful for such a young man,” he said.

A cornea transplant, which is a very expensive and complicated eye surgery, is expected to restore the child's sight.
