Suspect was arrested on Friday for possible terrorist attack in southern Adana province

ADANA, Turkey (AA) - A southern Turkish court remanded a suspect in custody for alleged links to the Daesh terrorist organization, according to judicial sources on Wednesday.

In the southern Adana province, the court remanded 24-year-old suspect -- known by initials Z. A. -- in custody, said a source on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media.

The police arrested the suspect on Friday for a possible terrorist attack on Nov. 10, the death anniversary of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey.

After a technical police follow-up, the suspect was found to have been communicating with a Daesh member in Syria -- identified by initials M. E. C. -- in a fake social media account.

The text messages revealed that the suspect was plotting a terrorist attack.

The suspect was first arrested in 2016 while trying to cross to Turkish southern border province Kilis from Syria, and released after 10-months jail term in prison pending trial.
