Veteran rock bands Megadeth and Scorpions to take center stage at separate upcoming events in Istanbul

- Megadeth to rock Istanbul

The veteran thrash metal band, , will headline Istanbul’s Rock Off festival on July 10.

Megadeth is taking the stage in Istanbul’s Parkorman a year after their performance at last year’s Rock Off.

The American heavy metal band was founded by lead guitarist and singer Dave Mustaine and bassist David Ellefson in 1983 in Los Angeles. This influential band is seen by many as responsible for thrash metal’s development and popularization.

The band has released 14 albums and sold almost 50 million records so far around the world.

Rock Off will also host Finnish melodic death metal band Children of Bodom, Swedish band Sabaton, and London-based British metal band DragonForce.

- Rock legends Scorpions bring 50th anniversary tour to Istanbul

German rock band Scorpions will perform at Istanbul’s Kucukciftlik Park as part of their 50th Anniversary World Tour on July 12.

Formed in 1965 in the German city Hannover, the band has a huge fan following worldwide. Their well-known song "Rock You Like A Hurricane” has been covered 150 times by different musicians, according to the group’s official website.

Turkish musician Sebnem Ferah will also take the stage before Scorpions.

- Turkish pop star to shake Antalya

Turkey’s pop icon Tarkan will meet fans in Turkey’s Mediterranean resort city of Antalya on July 9.

Tarkan will take the stage on the sidelines of Antalya Expo 2016, one of the largest horticultural shows in the world.

His debut album Yine Sensiz (Without You Once More) was released in 1992 and sold over 700,000 units in Turkey, according to his official website.

The World Music Award-winning Turkish pop singer has been known for the use of romantic themes in his work and has been dubbed the “Prince of Pop” by the local media.
