Istanbulites to enjoy concerts by British group Tindersticks and American indie-band Beirut

ISTANBUL (AA) – British band Tindersticks will perform in Istanbul.

Tindersticks will meet their Istanbul fans at Zorlu Music Center as part of the world tour of their latest album “The Waiting Room” on May 27.

The Nottingham outfit “has taken a different musical identity on every album they worked on. It is impossible to restrict their musical style just into alternative rock, since their sound is characterized by orchestral backing, lounge, jazz, soul,” according to a press release from Zorlu.

The band has released 11 albums and its music has been featured in films made by French Director Claire Denis as well as well-known television shows such as The Sopranos.

- American indie band Beirut to play in Istanbul

The American band, Beirut, will play at Istanbul's Kucukciftlik Park as part of a tour of their latest album “No No No” on May 28.

Led by frontman Zach Condon, the indie-rock band uses the accordion, the ukulele, the French horn or the trumpet to perform Balkans-inspired gypsy-folk songs.

Frequent visitors of Istanbul stages, Beirut is expected to play its hit songs such as "Nantes," "The Gulag Orkestar," and "Sunday Smile," as well as new songs from their latest album.

- Istanbul Modern Museum to host talk series

The Istanbul Modern Museum will hold the third edition of their talk series on May 24.

Following the U.S. and the U.K. participants, this time, the guest country will be Germany.

“Ellen Blumenstein, chief curator of the KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin will be sharing her experiences,” and discussing “whether museums are mediators or producers of culture,” the Istanbul Modern Museum said in a statement.

Organized in collaboration with the Goethe-Institute Istanbul, the event brings together museum professionals to “discuss the German models of museums and art institutions”.

The event is free of charge event and the talks will be in English, the museum added.
