ANKARA (AA) – Hosts Egypt qualified for the Round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations after beating DR Congo 2-0 on Wednesday in Group A match.
Aston Villa's Ahmed Elmohamady scored his team’s first goal in the 25th minute of the game.
Turkish Super Lig's Istanbul club Kasimpasa's winger Trezeguet provided a great assist to Mohamed Salah and the Liverpool star found the net two minutes before half-time.
This was Salah's first goal in the tournament.
Egypt secured the top spot in Group A with six points and joined Nigeria in the last 16 of the tournament.
DR Congo sit fourth with zero point.
Egypt will face Uganda in their last game of group stage on Sunday.
DR Congo have to win against Zimbabwe on the same day to qualify for the last 16 in the competition.
