ANKARA (AA) - Nigeria have become the first team to qualify for the Round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations by defeating Guinea 1-0 in Group B on Wednesday.
The only goal from Kenneth Omeruo’s header (73) brought the victory to his nation over Guinea in Alexandria Stadium.
Three-time winners Nigeria have six points in two games as Guinea have just one.
Nigeria will play against Madagascar and Guinea will face Burundi in the final round of Group B on Sunday.
In Group A, Uganda drew with Zimbabwe 1-1 in Cairo on Wednesday.
Emmanuel Okwi gave his team the early lead against Zimbabwe in the 12th minute of the game.
Zimbabwe’s Khama Billiat found the net five minutes before the half time, equalizing the match at 1-1.
No team could able to break the deadlock in the remaining minutes, as Uganda continued to top the Group A with 4 points.
Zimbabwe have only one point in two games.
Uganda will face the host nation Egypt in their last game on Sunday.
Zimbabwe have to win against DR Congo in the same day to qualify for the last 16 in the competition.
This year the tournament has expanded from 16 participating teams to 24.
