Airbus halts supplying spare part to Russia
Russia-Ukraine war causing volatility in global aviation industry, says EU-based aircraft producer
By Bahattin Gonultas
BERLIN (AA) - Airbus will stop supplying spare parts to Russia and Russian aviation firms, the EU-based aircraft producer said Wednesday.
Airbus said in a statement it was also evaluating whether its technical center in Moscow would be able to serve local customers under Western sanctions.
The decision comes amid volatility in global aviation following sanctions on Russia, it noted, with Russian planes so far banned from the airspaces of 36 countries in protest of the war on Ukraine.
Since Russia's war on Ukraine began last Thursday, it has been met by outrage from the international community, with the EU, Britain, and US implementing a range of economic sanctions on Moscow.
Apart from governmental sanctions, the international banking system and Western oil companies have also worked to distance themselves from Russia.
