Albert Padacke named Chad's prime minister

YAOUNDE, Cameroon (AA) – Albert Pahimi Padacke was appointed prime minister of Chad on Monday by the Transitional Military Council, a week after President Idriss Deby’s death in the battlefield.

He has been tasked to propose a transitional government to the military junta, which is chaired by Gen. Mahamat Idriss Deby, son of the late president, in 15 days.

The military council has said it will oversee an 18-month transition to elections.

Padacke was prime minister from 2016 to 2018. He was the last person to have occupied the post before the abolition of the institution in 2018.

He came second in the April 11 presidential election, and was also a candidate in the 2006 and 2011 presidential vote. Late President Deby was declared the winner a day before he was killed.
