Algeria, Libya, Jordan report new COVID-19 cases

Arab nations continue to report new infections, deaths

ISTANBUL (AA) - Health authorities in three Arab nations confirmed more infections and fatalities from the coronavirus Friday as the region continues to battle the pandemic.

-Algeria

The number of cases rose to 43,403 with 387 more infections reported in the past 24 hours, according to health officials.

Eight additional patients lost their lives in Algeria, bringing deaths to 1,483, while recoveries increased to 30,436.

- Libya

A total of 355 more virus cases were reported in Libya, bringing that figure to 12,629, including 226 fatalities and 1,310 recoveries.

- Jordan

Jordan reported 68 more cases in the past 24 hours, raising the overall count to 1,869, including 15 deaths.

A total of 1,387 patients have recovered.

- Worldwide

The coronavirus pandemic has claimed 833,836 lives in 188 countries and regions since it originated in China last December. The US, Brazil, India, and Russia are currently the worst-hit countries.

More than 24.5 million cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries exceeding 16 million, according to figures compiled by US-based Johns Hopkins University.
