Number of registered vehicles on Turkey's roads reaches more than 21.4M, according to official data

ANKARA (AA) - The number of vehicles registered in Turkey rose by 0.9 percent in March compared to the same month last year, reaching 102,899, according to the country's statistics authority on Wednesday.

The total number of road motor vehicles registered was over 21.4 million by the end of March, the Turkish Statistical Institute said.

Automobiles accounted for most new registrations -- 54.7 percent -- while small trucks accounted for 19.9 percent. Motorcycles were third on 10.7 percent in the third month of the year.

In terms of distribution of model brands for new registered cars in the month: 17.4 percent were Renault; 10.9 percent Volkswagen; 7 percent Hyundai; 6.7 percent Fiat; 6.2 percent Dacia; 5.6 percent Opel; 4.8 percent Ford; 4.7 percent Honda; 4.3 percent Mercedes-Benz; 4.1 percent Nissan. Other brands accounted for 28.3 percent.

"In March, the number of road motor vehicle registrations increased by 58.3 percent compared with the previous month," TurkStat added.
