ANKARA (AA) - Turkey’s premier Anadolu Agency participated in the 6th News Agencies World Congress (NAWC) that began in the Bulgarian capital Sofia on Thursday.

In a statement, NAWC said the congress that will continue until June 15 was attended by over 200 delegates from 100 countries, including the heads of leading news agencies from five continents, prominent journalists and figures from social media.

Maxim Minchev, director general of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA), welcomed the participants to discuss fake news, artificial intelligence, the new models of ownership of news agencies and the new sources of information.

In the opening speech, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev said: "The Future of News, is actually about the future of mankind."

"Digitalization has already changed our perception of the world because information is in abundant supply, but in reality it is the most scarce commodity," Radev said.

The first day of summit saw participation of many representatives from news agencies and regional associations, including EANA, OANA, FANA, Associated Press, Reuters, TASS.

Anadolu Agency was represented by the agency’s Director of International Operations Mucahit Soykan. Last year in November, Anadolu Agency took the helm of the Association of the Balkan News Agencies Association of the Balkan News Agencies – Southeast Europe (ABNA-SE) for one year.

BTA took over the presidency of NAWC, which is an international congress organized once in three years.
