Chinese news agency Xinhua delegation visits Anadolu Agency headquarters to sign cooperation deal over news exchange

By Can Erozden

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's Anadolu Agency and Chinese news agency Xinhua signed a cooperation agreement in capital Ankara on Thursday.

Anadolu Agency's Deputy Director General and Editor-in-Chief Metin Mutanoglu and Xinhua News Agency's Vice President Yan Wenbin signed the deal in the headquarters of the first.

The agreement covers news exchange between Anadolu Agency and Xinhua in Turkish, Chinese and English languages.

Following the signature ceremony, Mutanoglu hosted Yan and his delegation in the Editors’ Desk, where the duo emphasized the importance for boosting ties between Turkey and China, as well as news agencies.

Separately, Mutanoglu presented Yan with a handmade Turkish vase and 2017 Istanbul Photo Awards -- an international news photography contest held by Anadolu Agency -- and July 15 coup attempt books.

The parties also took a souvenir photo as the Chinese delegation visited the agency's news departments.

The Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) and its U.S.-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, which left 251 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.

Ankara also accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
