Anadolu Agency films Afrin prison after liberation

The prison was liberated on March 18 by Turkish Armed Forces and Free Syrian Army

AFRIN, Syria (AA) – A tour by Anadolu Agency reporters inside the Afrin central prison has unveiled inhumane conditions and torture methods used against inmates by YPG/PKK terrorists.

The prison was liberated on March 18 by the Turkish Armed Forces and Free Syrian Army (FSA) fighters from YPG/PKK terrorist group as part of Turkey’s Operation Olive Branch.

The terror group has kept its opponents and civilians in captivity inside the prison or punished them under rulings issued by affiliated courts.

The building is composed of 35 wards, 15 cells and two rooms for questioning. It was used by the terror group to imprison FSA members for the last two years.

The prison had almost no wards with window opening to the outside.

The questioning rooms, whose walls are decorated with mirrors, were used to extract information from FSA members.

Piles of documents belonging to the terrorist group were found inside the wards. Numerous aid packages from the Red Cross and the Syrian Red Crescent were also found inside the prison that was evacuated by the YPG/PKK before the liberation of Afrin.

The prison was used as a tool to pressure opponents and civilians.

On March 18, Turkish-backed troops liberated the district of Afrin, which had been a major hideout for the YPG/PKK since 2012.
