ANKARA (AA) - A 12-day war journalism training program began on Monday in the capital of Ankara under the supervision of Anadolu Agency News Academy.

A total of 21 correspondents -- both from inside and outside the agency -- were selected after an application process for the ninth term of the world’s recognized training program.

The certificate program is taking place at the Turkish Police Academy in Anittepe.

Under the program, Anadolu Agency News Academy will train correspondents jointly with the Turkish Police Academy, the disaster management agency, the Turkish Armed Forces, and the Undersecretariat of Public Order and Security.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Coordinator of the Anadolu Agency News Academy Hayri Cetinkus said the program aims at preparing correspondents to face dangers that may arise while reporting under emergency situation such as war, natural disaster and mass riots.

He noted that 29 subjects -- including journalism, personal security, the laws of war, first aid, advance driving techniques, water survival techniques, chemical and biological attacks and media management in hostile environments -- will be taught in the program.

Anadolu Agency does not send any correspondent to a war zone without having this training certificate, Cetinkus added.

The program will continue till May 26. The successful participants will be awarded with internationally recognized certificates.
