Anadolu Agency photojournalists win press photo awards

ANKARA (AA) – Ten Anadolu Agency photojournalists received awards at the Turkish Photojournalists Association’s 2017 Press Photo Awards in various categories.

Twenty-nine photos and seven series in eight categories were chosen this year by a jury, the association’s chairman, Riza Ozel, said during a ceremony at Turkey's Directorate General of Press and Information (BYEGM) in Ankara.

Deputy Prime Minister Hakan Cavusoglu also spoke at the event.

The year’s “Portrait” photo award was given to Kerem Kocalar, followed by Halil Sagirkaya in second while Metin Aktaş took honorable mention.

Anadolu Agency photojournalist Emin Menguarslan took second place in the “News Photography” category, while Ali Atmaca was awarded second and Salih Zeki Fazlioglu third in the “Spor Toto Sports Photo” category.

This year’s “Daily Life Photo” award went to Cem Genco while the “Environment and Nature” award went to Mahmut Serdar Alakus. Ali Ihsan Ozturk won third place in the “Environment and Nature” category.

The last award for Anadolu Agency went to Arif Hudaverdi Yaman in the “Photo of Politics” category.

Among those participating in the ceremony were Sports Minister Askin Bak, ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party secretary general Fatih Sahin, deputy chairman of the opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Mehmet Gunal, BYEGM chairman Mehmet Akarca, Anadolu Agency Visual News Editor Ahmet Sel, Anadolu Agency Photography Editor Firat Yurdakul and many other members of the press.
