Anadolu Agency, Zambia forge bonds in media cooperation

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s Anadolu Agency will send correspondents to the southern African nation of Zambia to explore news opportunities concerning tourism and investment, Zambia said Thursday.

The decision came after talks between Anadolu Agency Deputy Director-General Metin Mutanoglu, who also serves as editor-in-chief, and Zambia's Chargé d' Affaires in Turkey Bwalya Nondo, said a statement by the Embassy of the Republic of Zambia.

The bilateral meeting was held at Anadolu Agency’s headquarters in the capital Ankara on Wednesday.

During the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) regarding exchanges of news and information alongside training and technical support was discussed, the statement said.

The media collaboration between Turkey and Zambia is expected to boost bilateral relations between the two countries.

Nondo was quoted as saying in the statement: “The Zambian Mission in Turkey was seeking avenues on how best it could work with Anadolu Agency to bridge the information gap and enlighten people about the two countries on issues of overriding public importance.”

The statement also quoted Mutanoglu as saying: “Anadolu Agency has been encouraging Turkish investors to venture into African countries like Zambia, which is not only endowed with abundant natural resources but also a stable political environment.”

An Anadolu Agency media delegation is set to visit Zambia in mid-July to produce documentaries and news on culture and tourism, Mutanoglu added.

Anadolu Agency has 35 offices worldwide and produces news stories in 11 languages.

It currently posts news in Turkish, English, Arabic, French, Kurdish, Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian (BCS), Russian, Albanian, Persian, and Macedonian.
