Daily briefing on novel coronavirus pandemic worldwide, Turkiye, other developments

ISTANBUL (AA) - Anadolu Agency is here with a rundown of the latest developments on the coronavirus pandemic and other news in Turkiye and around the world.

- Coronavirus and other developments in Turkiye

Turkiye’s daily coronavirus cases surpassed 80,000 on Thursday, the highest since the beginning of the pandemic, according to official data.

The Health Ministry registered 82,180 new infections, 174 related deaths and 83,225 recoveries over the past day, while 424,164 virus tests were done in the last 24 hours.

To stem the spread of the virus, the country continues its immunization drive and has administered more than 141.41 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines since January 2021.

More than 57.38 million people have received their first jab, while over 52.33 million are fully vaccinated. Third booster shots have also been given to 24.67 million people.

Turkiye’s National Security Council called Thursday for the de-escalation of tensions between Russia and Ukraine.

Qatar, Turkiye and the Taliban-led interim government in Afghanistan agreed on “several key issues” to operate the airport in the Afghan capital Kabul on Thursday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has accepted the invitation of his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan to visit Turkiye, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced Thursday.

The Danish foreign minister said Thursday that Denmark will start pulling its troops out of Mali after the West African country's transitional government demanded an immediate withdrawal.

Spain's maritime security agency on Thursday rescued 131 asylum seekers trying to reach the Canary Islands, according to local reports.

Coronavirus restrictions are being lifted in England on Thursday as the country moves out of the government’s COVID Plan B.

Coronavirus restrictions in India’s capital New Delhi have been eased, as the "situation is under control," officials announced Thursday.

Russia reported over 88,000 coronavirus cases Thursday, marking the highest single-day jump for the ninth day in a row.

Rwanda eased coronavirus restrictions Thursday, reducing night curfew hours and allowing social functions to resume as new infections and deaths have fallen since the peak late last year, according to the government.
