Daily briefing on novel coronavirus pandemic worldwide, Turkey, other developments

ANKARA (AA) - Anadolu Agency is here with a rundown of the latest developments on the coronavirus pandemic and other news in Turkey and around the world.


- Coronavirus and other developments in Turkey

Turkey registered 3,116 additional COVID-19 patients, according to Health Ministry data.

The nation tested a liquid-fueled rocket engine developed by state-run rocket producer, Roketsan, according to a news release.

A new anti-terror operation began in the country's eastern province, the Interior Ministry announced.

Turkey remembered the 76th anniversary of the deportation of Ahiska Turks during the Soviet era.

Authorities identified two Daesh/ISIS terrorists who were arrested in an operation in Turkey, a security source said.


- Upper Karabakh

Azerbaijan and Armenia exchanged bodies of soldiers who died in clashes around Susha in the Upper Karabakh region, Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry said.

Turkish and Russian military delegations held technical talks at Turkish Defense Ministry headquarters, the Defense Ministry said.


- COVID-19 updates worldwide

South Africa recorded 2,213 new coronavirus cases, bringing the number of infections to 746,945, according to health Minister Zweli Mkhize.

A significant dip in infections was recorded in France, along with hospitalizations.

Taiwan has been ready to face the threat of emerging infectious disease since the SARS virus 17 years ago, said its minister of health and welfare.

India recorded nearly 45,000 new cases, figures showed, bringing the number of cases to more than 8.77 million.

Health authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar recorded new infections from the coronavirus pandemic.

Scientific advisers to the British government warned that a return to a three-tiered system of local coronavirus restrictions would not be enough to suppress infections after the end of the current nationwide lockdown, according to local media.

Italy reported 37,255 more cases of the coronavirus, down from the previous day, as experts noted the curve of contagion was showing first signs of deceleration.


- Other developments

The YPG/PKK terror group set free a ringleader of the Daesh/ISIS terrorist organization in Syria, according to local sources.

Two explosions were heard in Bahir Dar and Gonder in Amhara Regional State, sources told Anadolu Agency.

Dozens of terrorists were killed during Operation Barkhane carried out by French forces in Mali, according to a statement

At least 15 people were killed, including four Indian soldiers and one Pakistani trooper as heavy shelling and gunfire were exchanged between India and Pakistan along the Line of Control, officials said.

Border crossings between Libya and Tunisia were reopened after an eight-month closure due to the coronavirus outbreak, according to Libyan sources.

Afghanistan's vice president announced the perpetrator of a deadly attack on Kabul University earlier this month was caught.
