ANKARA (AA) - Anadolu Agency is here with a rundown of the latest developments on the coronavirus pandemic and other news in Turkey and around the world.

- Coronavirus and other developments in Turkey

Turkey has administered over 99.64 million coronavirus vaccine shots since the country launched an immunization campaign in January, according to official figures released Wednesday.

Over 50.68 million people in Turkey have gotten their first doses, while more than 39.33 million are fully vaccinated, said the Health Ministry.

The data showed that 81.6% of the country's adult population has received at least one dose of a two-shot vaccine. Turkey has also administered third shots to over 9.2 million people.

The ministry also reported 23,914 new coronavirus cases, while 262 more people died of the disease in the past 24 hours.

The COVID-19 booster shot increases protection against the disease, said the Turkish health minister.

Turkey and Egypt ended a second round of exploratory consultations by agreeing to continue the talks.

Turkey on Wednesday "strongly condemned" an instruction by the Greek Cypriot administration for English teachers to rip out a page in a textbook mentioning Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the Turkish Republic.

- COVID-19 updates worldwide

Daily COVID-19 deaths and infections in Africa rose slightly Wednesday, according to an update by the Africa CDC.

Vaccinated people are 10 times less likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19 than those who are unvaccinated, Germany’s top health expert said.

- Other global developments

The Russian Emergency Ministry reported that its head Evgeny Zinichev died while saving another person's life at a training exercise in the world's most northern city of Norilsk.

Germany and the US warned of a looming humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan after the Taliban's takeover last month resulted in the exodus of aid workers and subsequent funding cuts.

Greece’s controversial Deportations and Returns Law has come into effect after it was published in the country’s Official Gazette on Sept. 4.

Sudan summoned the Ethiopian ambassador after dozens of corpses were found on the banks of a river between the two neighbors, the North African country’s Foreign Ministry said.
