Daily briefing on novel coronavirus pandemic worldwide, Turkey, other developments

ANKARA (AA) – Anadolu Agency is here with a rundown of the latest developments on the coronavirus pandemic and other news in Turkey and around the world.

- Coronavirus and other developments in Turkey

Turkey reported 1,519 more coronavirus cases and 1,116 recoveries.

The tally of infections rose to 302,867, including 267,233 recoveries, according to data released by the Health Ministry.

The Turkish president met with his Kosovar counterpart in Istanbul. Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Hashim Thaci spoke over breakfast in Vahdettin Mansion.

The Turkish defense minister and Turkey's communications director slammed a despicable headline in a Greek newspaper about President Erdogan.

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck Turkey’s central Nigde province, the country’s disaster agency reported Sunday.

Brazil reported 739 more fatalities from the novel coronavirus while Mexico registered 455 additional deaths.

Coronavirus cases in India continued to surge at an alarming rate as 92,605 new infections were reported. The country’s COVID-19 cases have now crossed 5.4 million.

British Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the UK as a whole was at a “tipping point” and that London specifically could see further measures to stem a rising tide of virus cases.

Tunisia confirmed 17 fatalities from COVID-19, taking the country’s death toll to 155. In Bahrain, the nationwide death toll rose to 221 after five people died from the virus.

Australia reported 14 new cases in southeastern Victoria state Sunday along with six deaths.

- Other global developments

The Iranian Foreign Ministry said the US was facing international isolation over its decision to re-impose sanctions on Tehran.

Iran’s Parliament Speaker Baqer Ghalibaf criticized the “passive” reaction of the Hassan Rouhani government to the US move to re-impose sanctions on Tehran.

The US declared the re-imposition of biting UN sanctions on Iran that were lifted as part of a 2015 nuclear accord struck with world powers in a process known as a “snapback.”

Qatar said Sunday it stands by Palestinians and that the long-standing conflict with Israel should be resolved by addressing its root causes, according to the country's official news agency.

Iraqi security forces arrested two militants from the Daesh/ISIS terrorist group in raids in the capital Baghdad.

The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation and the World Tourism Forum Institute signed an agreement in Istanbul to increase cooperation in tourism between member states, including Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey.
