Anadolu Agency's photojournalism course begins

23 students are taking the landmark program, which is slated to last through May 2

ANKARA (AA) - Anadolu Agency on Tuesday started a landmark photojournalism program to train a new generation of photojournalists.

Students in the one-month program heard their first lecture from Umit Sonmez, the coordinator of Anadolu’s News Academy, who explained the significance of photos in the new age of media.

“Photography can make the most powerful arguments, as with a single shot one can express something that can’t be expressed through writing,” he said.

Lectures will be given by leading experts and experienced agency photojournalists, along with three “masters” seminars with renowned photojournalists.

Twenty-three participants are taking the 56-hour program, which lasts through May 2, and successful graduates will receive diplomas.

The course also offers weekend trips to picturesque areas such as the Ankara Castle, Hacibayram Mosque, Yedigoller (seven lakes) district, Beypazari, and Cappadocia.

The Anadolu Agency News Academy was established as part of the agency’s centennial goals for 2020. In recent years, the academy has held frequent seminars and provided a number of training programs.
