KONYA, Turkey (AA) - The Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office in central Konya province on Friday issued arrest warrants for 84 people for their suspected links to the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), the illegal network behind the 2016’s defeated coup, according to a judicial source.

Following the warrants, anti-organized crime units launched simultaneous operations in 43 provinces, the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, said.

Separately, the gendarmerie apprehended eight FETO suspects in southern Mersin province, according to another judicial source.

FETO and its U.S.-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, which left 250 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.

Ankara also accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
