Arsenal beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 in North London derby

Partey, Gabriel Jesus, Xhaka score for Arsenal, Spurs unable to secure 1-1 draw at Emirates Stadium

ANKARA (AA) - Arsenal beat city rivals Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 in Saturday's North London derby in the English Premier League.

In the 20th minute, Ghana's Thomas Partey, an Arsenal midfielder, scored a classy goal outside the area to draw the first blood in the derby.

Spurs' English star Harry Kane scored from the penalty spot to equalize at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium.

Kane went into the history books as he became the first player ever to score 100 away goals in the English Premier League.

The first half ended 1-1.

Arsenal took the lead again in the early minutes of the second half as Brazilian star Gabriel Jesus finished from close range.

In the 62nd minute, Tottenham right back Emerson Royal was sent off after a foul on Gabriel Martinelli.

Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka scored a left-footed shot from the center of the penalty box as Arsenal took a 3-1 lead in the 67th minute that named the result of the derby.

League leaders Arsenal have 21 points in eight matches. Tottenham Hotspur, who took their first loss of the season, have 17 points.

In the next fixture, Arsenal will face Liverpool in London on Sunday, Oct. 9.

Meanwhile, third-place Tottenham Hotspur will visit Brighton and Hove Albion next weekend.
