Asian stock markets close Monday with gains

Half of indices post increases more than 2% at close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Major stock exchanges in Asia closed Monday in the positive territory.

The Asia Dow, which includes blue-chip companies in the region, added 75.50 points, or 2.23%, to 3,462 at 1014 GMT.

Tokyo's Nikkei 225 stock exchange increased 587.75 points, or 2.19%, to 27,369 points.

The Hang Seng, the benchmark for blue-chip stocks trading on the Hong Kong stock exchange, was the best performer of the day, rising 426.57 points, or 2.06%, to 21,123.

China's Shanghai Stock Exchange increased 18.82 points, or 0.6%, to close at 3,149 points.

The Indian Sensex benchmark added 1,041 points, or 1.9%, to end the day at 55,925.

The Singapore index rose 8.4 points, or 0.26%, to finish at 3,238 points.
