Asian stock markets mixed at Tuesday's close

Japan's Nikkei 225 index rises 1.25% to close at nearly 8-week high

ANKARA (AA) – Major Asian stock markets closed Tuesday mixed amid COVID-19 resurgence in China with cases reaching its highest level in six months over the weekend.

The Asia Dow, which includes blue-chip companies in the region, rose 1.09%, or 32.17 points, to 2,978.82.

Tokyo's Nikkei 225 stock exchange was the best performer of the day, jumping 1.25%, or 344.5 points, to nearly an eight week high of 27,872.

The Hang Seng, the benchmark for blue-chip stocks trading on the Hong Kong stock exchange, fell 0.23%, or 38.60 points, to close Tuesday at 16,557.3.

China's Shanghai Stock Exchange lost 0.43%, or 13.32 points, to 3,064.5.

The Singapore index climbed 0.14%, or 4.52 points, to close at 3,145.83.
