BAGHDAD (AA) – Six people, including a police officer, have been killed in several attacks in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Monday, according to local security forces.

A sniper targeted one police checkpoint, killing an officer and injuring two others north of Baghdad, police captain Daham al-Mahmoud told Anadolu Agency.

A bomb blast also killed two civilians and injured six others near Sabi al-Boor’s shopping area, north of Baghdad, Mahmoud added.

Mahmoud said two civilians were also killed and five others injured due to an explosive device which denoted close to al-Shoula district, northwest of the Iraqi capital.

He added that one civilian was also killed and seven others injured in bomb blast near a medical complex in al-Doora district, south of the capital.

There has been no claim of responsibility for the attacks, though Iraqi authorities often point the finger at the Daesh terrorist group.

Iraqi forces are currently preparing a major offensive to recapture Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city, from Daesh group.
