Australia records 3 more COVID-19 deaths

MELBOURNE, Australia (AA) - Australia reported three more deaths along with 28 new cases of the novel coronavirus in southeastern Victoria state Tuesday.

The number of confirmed infections in the country rose to 26,939, while the death toll reached 854, Victoria’s Premier Daniel Andrews said at a news conference.

The number of recoveries in the country stands at 24,152.

New Zealand, meanwhile, reported no fresh coronavirus cases or deaths in the last two days, said Director General of Health Ashley Bloomfield.

The country has reported a total of 1,815 cases, with only three still hospitalized. Most coronavirus patients have recovered and there remain only 61 active cases, Bloomfield added.

A total of 25 patients in New Zealand have died due to COVID-19.

Across the world, COVID-19 has claimed over 963,000 lives in 188 countries and regions since December.

The US, India and Brazil are currently the worst-hit countries.

More than 31.2 million cases have been reported with over 21.3 million recoveries, according to figures compiled by US-based Johns Hopkins University.
